West Houston students achieve excellence at UHV Katy

The University of Houston-Victoria at Katy offers a wide selection of academic programs for students ready to finish a bachelor’s degree or pursue a master’s degree in the classroom or online. Classes are affordable, and students don’t have to leave West Houston – or even their own home.

It’s no wonder readers of the Katy Times have voted UHV as the Best College in Katy four years in a row and second place in 2021, and readers of Living Magazine named UHV as Best College/University in Katy/Fulshear two years in a row.

“UHV offers quality courses to meet the needs of all our students in Katy, Victoria and beyond,” UHV President Bob Glenn said. “We are committed to serving the higher education needs of our communities by offering affordable, excellent programs in relevant fields.”

In fall 2019, UHV Katy moved into a new instructional site at 22400 Grand Circle Blvd. near Interstate 10 and the Grand Parkway. The three-story, 80,000-square-foot building shared with the University of Houston includes labs, studios, conference rooms, study niches, offices and a multi-purpose room.

College Experience

For students who want a more traditional college experience, UHV’s main campus in Victoria offers more than 80 academic programs, including bachelor’s degrees for freshman and transfer students and master’s degrees. Students also have access to residence halls and a wide assortment of student activities. The UHV University Commons student center and library opened in August 2019. University South, a science, technology, engineering and mathematics building, and UHV Northwest, an off-campus location will open this fall.

Regardless of where or how students attend UHV, the qualified faculty and small class sizes will ensure they receive the personal attention and encouragement needed to succeed.

“Getting my degree at UHV was a great experience,” said Jessica Janis, an Inez resident who graduated in May with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. “The academic advisors help you plan your degree path, and the faculty make themselves available to help you understand the material. The faculty want to know your personal goals and invest the time and effort to help you reach them. Even during a pandemic, UHV made getting my degree convenient and rewarding.”

UHV has agreements with many Houston area community colleges, allowing for a seamless transfer to the university. Students can choose to pursue degrees in a variety of fields through UHV’s three academic schools: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, and Education, Health Professions & Human Development.

Undergraduate Programs

In the School of Arts & Sciences, transferring students have a choice of many undergraduate programs ranging from computer science and psychology to history and mathematics. Graduate programs are available in several growing fields, such as master’s degrees in computer science or forensic psychology, or a specialist in school psychology degree. In addition, the school recently added a Master of Arts in criminal justice that is offered online.

The School of Business Administration offers Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees with concentrations that include accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, human resources management, management and marketing. Students can earn an MBA for less than $16,000. UHV’s business programs are accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Less than 5 percent of business schools worldwide achieve this distinction.

The School of Education, Health Professions & Human Development offers undergraduate degrees in teaching, health studies, kinesiology and nursing, and graduate degrees in sport management, curriculum and instruction, counseling, administration and supervision, early childhood, educational technology and special education. Popular graduate programs and concentrations include English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, dyslexia, superintendent and educational technology.
