Many rental houses and apartment homes are available in the Greater Houston area right now, and prices are determined by location, square footage, and amenities.

Apartment locators or leasing agents at the complexes are ready to answer questions, assist with move-in details and help orient new residents. Select properties provide apartment information, floor plans, photos and tours online. Many Houston units have fireplaces, ceiling fans, built-in microwaves, washer/dryer connections, on-site recreational facilities and covered parking. Some complexes feature state-of-the-art gyms, movie theatres, sparkling pools, multi-purpose party rooms, executive business centers and more. Some facilities allow pets. Most require a security deposit and a credit card report; leases range from six months to one year. Month-to-month leases are available but usually command higher prices.

Complexes have different plans for utilities, cable and internet service, and additional deposits and activation services may be necessary. Apartment owners must install smoke detectors, locks on every door and latches on each window. Discuss any special housing requirements you may have with the leasing agent and be sure that the terms are written into the lease. In Texas, all real estate agreements must be in writing.
