Football programs in CFISD are giving back to the elementary and middle school students in their local communities by hosting youth football camps this summer.
Fifty-five students from nearby elementary school feeder campuses attended the Cypress Woods High School Football Camp June 13-16, learning and practicing basic skills in all three phases of the sport—offense, defense and special teams. The camp participants also learned strength training activities that can be accomplished without lifting weights.

Fort Bend ISD schools serving Sienna Plantation students saw a marked increase in the annual rankings recently released by Children at Risk, a non-profit organization that publishes reports on the performance of Texas schools.

Ray Zepeda, associate athletic director for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, has been named the athletic director. Zepeda replaces Ed Warken, who retired after a 42-year career following the 2015-2016 school year.

Making it to state in any UIL event is an accomplishment, but Langham Creek High School senior Connor Ferguson has done it twice. Ferguson advanced to the UIL Class 6A state championships in two sports, baseball and swimming, all within the same year.
Ferguson was a member of the Lobos’ 200 freestyle relay team that placed 10th at state in February. That same relay team broke the school record and is just outside of the top 100 fastest high school relay times in the nation this year.
A new partnership between Texas A&M University and the Spring Independent School District will bring college students to classrooms at Thompson Elementary School this fall. One of a few in the country, the Urban Student Teacher Advanced Residency (U-STAR) program is a yearlong clinical teaching experience that will immerse senior-level students studying education directly in the district’s classrooms.
