Pearland ISD: Pre-PEAR workshops invite kids to explore robots, STEM fields

Are you an 11- to 14-year-old who is passionate about robotics and interested in science, technology, engineering and math fields?

Pearland Independent School District’s Pearadox Robotics Team students and industry professionals will host three individual prePEAR workshops this fall to teach the process to build a robot and show real-world career opportunities in STEM and robotics.

Pearland ISD bond package addresses growth, aging facilities

Since its last bond election, Pearland ISD has grown by about 6,000 students and anticipates 1,500 more students in the next seven years.

Addressing both a growing student population and aging facilities is a top priority of Pearland Independent School District’s Nov. 8 school bond election.

Approximately 83 percent of projects included in the $220 million bond package will address district-wide enrollment growth and facility renovations, adding extra capacity at current schools and ensuring campus maintenance and upgrades to continue serving students.

Cy Fair ISD College Night expands to two nights in 22nd year

CFISD’s annual College Night will expand to two nights in its 22nd year, Oct. 11-12 at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road).

The event, hosted by the guidance and counseling department, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. each evening. The following high school campuses will attend on their respective nights:

·         Oct. 11 – Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Cypress Falls, Cypress Ranch, Jersey Village and Windfern high schools; and

·         Oct. 12 – Cypress Lakes, Cypress Ridge, Cypress Springs, Cypress Woods and Langham Creek high schools.

St. Francis Grows Through Record Gift and Enrollment

St. Francis Episcopal Day School

A generous gift to The Campaign for St. Francis recently provided St. Francis Episcopal School with the lead funding for its new athletics center, slated to open in fall 2017 on the school’s South Campus. The new multipurpose center will provide much-needed room for the St. Francis Middle School sports program, as well as academic classrooms and athletics facilities for the coming Upper School.

Cypress Fairbanks ISD Back-to-School Expo draws record attendance

More than 4,200 guests attended the fourth annual CFISD Back-to-School Expo on Aug. 13 at the Berry Center, a record attendance for the one-stop-shop for resources for incoming students, parents and prospective employees.

A total of 290 students enrolled for the 2016-2017 school year at the event, which also provided 230 athletic physicals from Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and 400 vision screenings.

Harris Health System and Texas Vaccine Institute provided more than 1,000 vaccines for children, and Methodist Willowbrook also distributed 2,000 free first aid kits.
