School's out and METRO want to give your children FREE RIDES to where the fun is all summer long.
The La Quinta Inn & Suites - Westchase, located at 10850 Harwin Drive, recently completed extensive reonovations and is looking pretty snazzy. "New décor throughout the hotel and our 83 rooms will completely enhance your guest experience," said Yolanda Brown, general manager.
Opened in 2007, the three-story hotel features such amenities as local shuttle service, free full breakfast buffet, free wired and wireless high-speed Internet access in each guest room and throughout the hotel, 48" TVs with on-screen program guides, meeting space and a business center.
Quillian Recreation Center, 10570 Westpark Drive, is sponsoring "Sports Night in the District", a FREE weekly event taking place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 26.
Geared towards young adults and professionals, it's a great opportunity to discover the Quillian sports field (Tuesdays) and the Quillian gymnasium (Thursdays). Avoid traffic while meeting other young professionals by playing basketball, flag football, soccer, dodgeball, kickball, volleyball and more. Did we mention that it's FREE?
Westchase District recently received a "Great Texas Trail Boss" service award at the 2016 Texas Trails and Active Transportation Conference. The award given by the Texas Trails Network, recognizes the District for its regional leadership role in the planning and implementation of urban areas that offer trails, bikeways, pedestrian paths, and access to public transportation.
Even nearly 80 degree weather couldn't stop 50,000 pounds of snow from falling on First Methodist Houston last Thursday as more than 6,500 people turned out for the 12th annual Wonderland in Westchase.

This year's 13th annual Westchase District Summer Food Drive reached an all-time high (or is that weight?), collectingmore than 11,100 poundsof non-perishable items for the pantry at West Houston Assistance Ministries. May is National Bike Month and cycling enthusiasts are peddling several celebratory events this month, including Houston's celebration of Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 15.
"Even if you're not planning to commute to work on the 15th, now is a good time for you to inspect your bike and make sure it's in operational order," said Mark Hubenak, Westchase District's public safety director. "That includes checking your tire air pressure, testing your brakes, assuring that your gears are shifting smoothly and testing the batteries on your bike lights."
