LSC-CyFair Hosts Free Inaugural Dance Showcase Dec. 4

Check out the talent of Lone Star College-CyFair’s dance students in a free dance showcase Dec. 4.

Julliard School of Dance graduate Irene Ko leads LSC-CyFair’s Modern Dance class and members of the Diverse Dance Club in this inaugural production that will feature multiple dance styles and explore the dynamics of light and movement.

The 7:30 p.m. performance will be held in the Black Box Theatre, which is located in the Center for the Arts building on the Barker Cypress campus at 9191 Barker Cypress.

LSC-CyFair L.I.F.E. Includes Creativity, Mystery and Holiday Activities

Attendees at Lone Star College-CyFair’s weekly programs this November and December can partake in origami, a CSI mystery, cake decorating and holiday singing.

The Learning, Inspiration, Fellowship, and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) programs are free and held Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the library (Room 131 unless otherwise noted) at 9191 Barker Cypress.

Lone Star College-Montgomery Honors Local High School Art Teachers with Exhibit

Lone Star College-Montgomery’s art department will host an exhibit featuring the work of numerous local high school art teachers, on display beginning Monday, November 2, through Friday, November 20, in the college’s Mary Matteson-Parrish Art Gallery, located in the Performing Arts Center (Building D).

The entire community is invited to the artist reception on Thursday, November 5, from 5-7 p.m., in the same location. The reception is free and refreshments will be served. Besides the reception, guided tours of the art studio spaces will be available for attendees.

LSC-Montgomery Invites Prospective Students to Maverick Mondays

Lone Star College-Montgomery invites prospective students to Maverick Mondays, the ultimate campus tour experience that includes a “behind the scenes” look many of the same resources offered at a four-year institution, on the LSC-Montgomery campus. 

“The best way to understand the campus culture is to experience it,” said Laura Cardiel, program coordinator of campus outreach at LSC-Montgomery. “This will give students the chance to see everything our campus has to offer to make them successful.” 

Lone Star College to host 2015 Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Consortium conference

Lone Star College welcomes honors students from across the Gulf Coast region Oct. 16 to take part in the 2015 Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Consortium conference.

“The GCIC conference provides our area’s high-achieving students with opportunities for advanced study that truly prepare two-year graduates for the most competitive college programs,” said Dr. Katie Caruso, executive director of The Honors College at LSC.

LSC-North Harris Paralegal Studies program hosts information session on Nov. 18

HOUSTON (October 2, 2014) – The ABA-approved Lone Star College-North Harris paralegal studies program will host an information session on Tuesday, November 18, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in room 126 of the Academic Building, located at 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive in Houston. Prospective students with an interest in a paralegal career are invited to attend this free event.

Hispanic Heritage Month at Lone Star College-North Harris features Sept. 24 presentation by Dr. Jose-Antonio Orosco

HOUSTON (September 17, 2014) –Dr. Jose-Antonio Orosco, director of the peace studies program at Oregon State University, will make a special presentation at Lone Star College-North Harris on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at noon in the Academic Building (ACAD-126), located at 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive in Houston. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

Former Lone Star College-North Harris student credits professor’s advice as stepping stone to educational goal

HOUSTON (August 20, 2014) –Former Lone Star College-North Harris student Sopaul Seng, has recently been accepted into the medical dosimetry program at the UT MD Anderson Allied School of Health Sciences. Medical dosimetry involves the measurement and calculation of radiation doses used in the treatment of cancer patients.

Seng graduated from LSC-North Harris in the fall of 2013, with an associate degree in science. After getting some solid advice from a professor about medical dosimetry, Seng knew it was something that he wanted to pursue.
