City Manager Clay Pearson officially appointed Johnny Spires, a law enforcement executive with more than 27 years of experience, to the position of police chief for the City of Pearland, Texas. A longtime member of the City of Pearland staff, Spires has served as a police officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Assistant Chief of Police and will step into his new role June 1, upon the retirement of Chief J.C. Doyle.

The City of Pearland Winterfest, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28, is an annual outdoor festival featuring all kinds of wintery fun. The family-friendly event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium located at 4141 Bailey Road.
The event will provide a full day of entertainment and activities which will include snow tubing hills in the H-E-B Winter Zone, a carnival, inflatables, games, rock climbing and a petting zoo provided by Westside Veterinary Clinic.
Mayor Tom Reid of Pearland has received countless honors over the years for his commitment to building a quality community where residents can live, work and play. Mayor Reid added one more honor this week; a proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott recognizing Reid’s work in organizing the Pearland Alliance for Art & Culture (PAAC).

On the morning of June 12, 2016, the City of Pearland lost a police officer in the line of duty for the first time in more than 40 years. In an effort to honor Officer Endy Ekpanya’s sacrifice, the City of Pearland is hosting a Memorial Tree Dedication Ceremony. The Tree Dedication Ceremony is being held on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Pearland Public Safety Building, 2555 Cullen Parkway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The brief ceremony will officially designate a recently planted “Sweet Tea” Mountain Gordlinia and engraved marker in remembrance of Officer Endy Ekpanya.
The City of Pearland has again been nationally recognized for excellence in clear and complete governmental financial reporting. For Fiscal Year ended September 30, 2015, just as in the past 40 years, the City's Comprehensive Annual Final Report (CAFR) has received recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
The City of Pearland invites all ghosts and goblins to the 14th Annual Trick or Treat Trail scheduled for Monday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Veterans Sports Complex, located at 3901 Veterans Drive. Bring the whole family out for this free, safe and fun alternative to trick-or-treating and walk our “trail” as local businesses and organizations pass out candy and other goodies to Pearland trick-or-treaters.

Pearland City Council has voted to amend the 2015 Comprehensive Plan to incorporate the SH 35 Corridor Redevelopment Strategy. SH 35, or Main Street, is one of the three major corridors addressed in the Strategic Plan. One of the main strategies outlined in the Pearland 20/20 Community Strategic Plan is to optimize the development potential of Pearland’s principal commercial corridors that are the primary areas of our community’s economic activity.
The Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch, phase 1, is expected to be completed at the end of July. The Shadow Creek Ranch Sports Complex was one of the many park projects included and approved in the bond election of 2007.
The facility, which has a current budget of $10,125,051, will include amenities such as a lighted softball/baseball fields, a soccer field, volleyball courts, parking, trails and a lawn amphitheater.
The City of Pearland’s annual summer music series, “Concerts in the Park”, begins Friday, May 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Southdown Park and continues on Friday nights during the months of May and June.
The concerts provide area residents with free access to live music in a family-friendly environment. Bring a lawn chair and grab a bite to eat while enjoying featured bands from across the musical spectrum, with offerings for every musical taste including Rock, Zydeco, Blues and more.
