Grace School In West Houston Celebrates Preschool Education


Grace School recently celebrated Week of the Young Child with five days of activities aimed at celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers and families.

Remember Preschool? Days filled with brightly colored blocks, fruit juice, cheese crackers and an afternoon nap.  In hindsight, there wasn’t a lot of “school” in many preschool programs.  It leaves many moms and dads wondering if preschool is worth it?

Local Student Named Junior Sporting Clays Champion

James Vaquero, eighth grade student at St. Michael Catholic School, was crowned Junior Champion at the Young Guns Sporting Clays Shoot competition sponsored by the 2017 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The competition took place the first weekend in March 2017, coinciding with the BBQ championship and opening night of the rodeo.

The field was made up of nearly 600 young men and women under 18 years of age and from all over Texas. With James in the mix, the top 10 shooters advanced to championship round on Sunday March 5.

All Presbyterian School Odyssey of the Mind Teams Win TOP THREE Places in Regional Tournament and Advance to State Finals

Presbyterian School scored huge at the February 25th Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament with every eligible team placing in the TOP THREE of their division's problem.

Incarnate Word Academy Opens New Academic Building

Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) opened the doors to its new Academic Building and Young Leaders Conference Center on February 10, 2017.  The new 18,500 square foot building, which is adjacent to IWA’s existing academic building at 609 Crawford Street, will serve the students of IWA with classrooms, a Young Leaders Program conference center, collaborative learning centers, a performing arts studio, fine arts studio, and a rooftop patio to bring the outdoors to our urban campus.

St. Michael Catholic School Choir Sings At Mass With Daniel Cardinal DiNardo

On Wednesday, January 25, the choir of St. Michael Catholic School (SMCS) sang at a liturgy at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Daniel Cardinal DiNardo presiding.  The choir received an invitation from the Office of Worship and the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese to sing at the Essay Contest Mass – an annual event sponsored by the University of St. Thomas Office in collaboration with the Catholic Schools Office. The essay contest is open to Catholic School students in grades third through 12.

Dresses for a Difference 

High school senior Margaret Carpenter created Dresses for a Difference, a service project that has left an impact on nearly 100 underprivileged girls.

Inspired by two adopted Haitian children who had dresses made from pillowcases, Maggie saw how the simple garments brought the girls such joy, and she wanted to spread the love.
