Alvin Community College Regents Approve Contract with TXU Energy

Alvin Community College

Alvin Community College Regents unanimously approved an energy contract with TXU that will save the college approximately $118,185 over the next five years. The electricity contract would begin in 2018 and expire in 2023.

               The college also will review another energy efficiency program offered by the electrical provider that could possibly fund the purchase of additional solar lighting along the 2-mile jogging trail.

American Association of Community Colleges Names Nolan and Ruth Ryan Outstanding Alumni of Alvin Community College

Alvin Community College alumni and longtime supporters Nolan and Ruth Ryan were named the American Association of Community College’s Alumni of the year during the association’s national conference this week. ACC President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht accepted the award at the AACC’s convention.

               The baseball legend and his wife were recognized for their support and hard work with the college over the past several decades.

Business and Allied Health instructors will provide information to Pearland area students about various programs available to them during the Alvin Community College Education Fair, April 21. The fair is being held at the Hilton Garden Inn, 12101 Shadow Creek Parkway in the Shadow Creek Ballroom, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Alvin Community College Regents Approve Reduced Insurance, Electricity Costs

Alvin Community College regents voted unanimously to approve contracts that would lower its insurance premiums and energy costs at the March 24 meeting.

Regents also approved a contract with Tradition Energy consulting firm which will review prices for electricity and help secure the lowest price for ACC. Tradition works with the Texas Association of Community Colleges Purchasing Network to provide energy services.

Workers who want to find an employment opportunity can meet with potential employers during the Alvin Community College Job and Resource Fair on April 27 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nolan Ryan Center, 924 S. Highway 35 in Alvin.

               The college is also working with employers and other local organizations to provide workers with a chance to learn about job search resources as well as providing information about programs at the college.

Alvin Community College Drama Department Presents “A Year With Frog and Toad”, March 5

The Alvin Community College Drama Department will begin musical performances of “A Year With Frog and Toad” on March 5.

               The spring musical A Year With Frog and Toad is a production based on the children’s tales of a toad and frog who experience several adventures in their woodland home. The musical is based on the Tony Award-winning production on Broadway.

               “Although based on the popular children’s books, the show is not just for children but will lots of fun for the whole family,” Drama Chair Dr. Jay Burton said.
