Alvin Community College & Alvin Museum Society Partner to Use App Technology in Museum Tours

The Alvin Museum Society has teamed up with Alvin Community College to help history enthusiasts use their smart phones to learn more about the region.

In conjunction with the Lake Jackson Museum, an app was created that utilizes QR codes with OneCell technology. The app brings up written text and audio about a particular location or exhibit at the Alvin and Lake Jackson Museums.

Alvin Community College Regents Approve Softball Fieldhouse

Alvin Community College regents approved a softball fieldhouse project during their meeting on February 23.

The $617,000 project with Aries Building Systems would build a fieldhouse adjacent to the softball field. The majority of the project costs includes tie-in to the Alvin city water and sewer lines which are required by ordinance. The project is set to be complete by July 1.

Alvin Community College Choir Students Earn All-State Honors

Six Alvin Community College students were named to the Texas All-State Choir and performed at the recent Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio. Alex Begnaud, of Alvin, Dalia Castelan, of Alvin, Amy Harris, of Surfside Beach, Arthur Mejia, of Alvin, Brazos Star of Angleton and Hope Vavich, of Alvin, were selected to participate in the Texas Two Year College Choral Directors Association concert on February 11.

Alvin Community College Utilizing New Pathways to Help Students Earn Degrees or Certifications

Alvin Community College administrators and staff members recently attended an institute that will help them build clear pathways for students seeking to obtain a degree or certifications.

Closely based on the current national Pathways Project led by the American Association of Community Colleges. The Pathways Project is an initiative to help achieve the 60x30 goal set by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB); 60 percent of 25 to 34 year old Texans to hold a certificate or degree by 2030.

Alvin Community College Art Instructor's Ornament to Hang on State Christmas Tree

Every holiday season the officials in the state capitol hoist a 25-foot, Texas-grown Christmas tree in the House of Representatives Chamber. The evergreen is adorned with ornaments from residents and artists throughout Texas.

Alvin Community College Painting and Drawing instructor Jennifer McClish was chosen by District 29 Representative Ed Thompson to paint an ornament for the tree. The ornament will represent Texas District 29, where ACC is located. The tree will be on display from November 30 to January 2.

Alvin Community College Regents Hear Accreditation Report

Alvin Community College Board of Regents heard a presentation about the five-year interim accreditation report during their meeting on October 27.

The report is part of the 10-year accreditation reaffirmation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The report was completed in September and a committee with SACS/COC is currently reviewing it.

SACS/COC will issue their findings on the report in December at its annual conference.

Alvin Community College 2016 Fall Student Ambassadors

There will be four new members to the Alvin Community College Student Ambassadors program to start off the fall 2016 semester. ACC Ambassadors are an important element in attracting students and promoting the college’s mission. During the fall semester ambassadors will help provide information to potential students about ACC services, help create marketing strategies, conduct campus tours, work community events and even volunteer for College and  Foundation events. Ambassadors receive a $600 scholarship for their 45-hour commitment.
