Brazosport Independent School District Names Teachers of the Year

The 2017-2018 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year were named for the

first time during the annual BISD Employee Recognition Dinner event on May 11, 2017.

Congratulations go to Elementary Teacher of the Year Amanda Martinez, from Stephen

F. Austin STEM Academy and Secondary Teacher of the Year Paula Bailey, from Clute

Intermediate School.

Brazosport ISD ~ Beutel Elementary Student Wins 1st Place in State Art Contest

A Beutel Elementary student, Canon Taylor, was awarded 1st Place in the state in the 2017 International Aviation Art Contest. The International Aviation Art Contest was created to challenge children between the ages of 6 through 17 to illustrate the importance of aviation through art. Canon’s artwork is being sent to Washington DC where it will go on to compete at the national level. He was recognized at the Texas Aviation Conference during an awards banquet held on April 20. 

Brazosport ISD Teacher, Ron Rozelle, receives Sam Houston State University Distinguished Educator Award

Author and creative writing teacher Ron Rozelle has been named Distinguished Educator of the Year for 2017 by Sam Houston State University College of Education. This award is the highest honor the college bestows upon its alumni.

The Distinguished Educator of the Year award recognizes and honors alumni educators who have made a significant contribution to the field of education - demonstrating expertise or outstanding service in the classroom, school, district and community.

Each year Brazosport Independent School District recognizes the leadership, service, and dedication of two campus principals as BISD’s Elementary and Secondary Principals of the Year. This year we honor Dr. Karen Matt from Madge Griffith Elementary School and Mr. Richard Yoes from R O’Hara Lanier Middle School as BISD’s 2017 Principals of the Year.

Brazosport Independent School District: Brazoswood Chamber Ensemble Adds Holiday Spirit

The Brazoswood Chamber Ensemble performed for Brannen Elementary students this week to help get them into holiday spirit. The ensemble also performed for shoppers at the Brazos Mall in Lake Jackson.

Brazosport ISD Featured in National Nutrition Magazine, Ideas that Work

Lisa Beck, RD, LDN assistant director of Brazosport Independent School District Child Nutrition Department was recently featured in the Ideas that Work segment of the national magazine SN School Nutrition for her innovative lessons in nutrition education. Beck has worked with some of our BISD teachers to incorporate nutrition into core curriculum lessons such as a high school math class learning to calculate BMI and caloric intake. Lisa, works to connect core curriculum with “real life” tools to help our students enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Brazosport ISD: Lanier Middle School Gymnasium Named in Honor of Cottrell B. McGowan

A new gym being completed at R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School in Freeport will become the Cottrell B. McGowan Gymnasium. The Brazosport Independent School’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved honoring the former Lanier High School coach this past spring. A Dedication Reception is being held on Friday, September 16th at 2:00 pm at R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School.

Brazosport ISD Students Participate in National Leadership Conference

Students and advisors of Brazosport High School participated in the National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America in Boston, MA. Four members from the Brazosport chapter were among the approximate 6,000 students, advisors and guests from across the United States participating in the 50th National Leadership Conference.
