More than 5,500 Fort Bend high school seniors recently packed the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land for the second annual Fort Bend Decision Day. The seniors pledged to continue their education upon high school graduation. Over 500 of them from all 11 high schools in the Fort Bend Independent School District committed to attend Houston Community College (HCC) in the fall.
For the eighth year in a row, Houston remains the No. 1 U-Haul U.S. destination city, according to the latest U-Haul migration trends report. Following Houston in the rankings were Chicago, San Antonio, Orlando, and Austin. U-Haul destination cities are ranked according to the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul truck rentals to a city in the past calendar year.
While Houston witnessed a 3.4 percent decline in 2016 arrivals compared with 2015, it continued to be the busiest domestic market for incoming U-Haul trucks.
Alvin Community College will host an Adjunct Job Fair on June 24 to recruit part-time instructors for the college. The Fair will be held at the Nolan Ryan Center from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
There are several positions open to teach day, evening and weekends classes. Teaching formats may include the traditional classroom, online or hybrid.
The positions are available at various Brazoria County locations including the ACC main campus, UHCL Pearland Campus, Shadow Creek High School, Texas Department of Criminal Justice and several others.
The largest rocket Brazoswood High School has ever produced at 28-pounds and 8 feet long flew to 4141 feet, powered by a Hypertek L610 rocket motor producing 235 pounds of thrust. After reaching 375 miles per hour, both parachutes deployed exactly as designed and the rocket landed unharmed.
During a Alvin Community College Commencement ceremony a record number of Alvin, Manvel, Dawson and Turner high school students walked across the stage weeks ahead of getting their high school diplomas.
ACC had 131 students who successfully earned 60 hours of college coursework through participation in the Alvin Community College Dual Credit-Dual Degree program and completed their Associate Degree in General Studies.

The Texas Transportation Commission has approved a grant of approximately $500,000 for the Pearland Regional Airport. Funds will be used for planned airport improvements, including signage, fencing, safety, and security improvements.
