Pearland Hosting First Bike Rodeo, Nov. 19

The Pearland Police Department and the Parks and Recreation Department will host their first Bike Rodeo for kids and teens, ages 5 to 15, on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pearland Recreation Center and Natatorium. The is to teach children basic bicycle handling skills and traffic concepts that will help them safely operate their bicycle and avoid the most common types of crashes.

“The event is really about teaching kids how to safely ‘drive’ their bike through a fun, hands-on experience,” said Sergeant Carlton Eschete. “We encourage and invite residents to participate in the Bike Rodeo and enjoy learning some new tips,” he continued.

The event will feature eight stations that showcase a different aspect of bicycle safety, from starting and stopping skills to avoiding road hazards. Before they make their way through the stations, participants will have their bikes inspected by a bicycle shop mechanic and be instructed on how to properly wear a helmet.

Admission is free and participants should bring their own bikes and helmets. Parking will be at Turner High School and participants can ride their bikes behind the school to the event. For more information on this event and others, visit pearlandparks.com or call 281.412.8900.
