HCC Extends 'Show Us Your Spring Branch' Photo Deadline

After receiving tremendous support for campaign, college extends deadline to Feb 1

HOUSTON [December 13, 2013] HCC's Spring Branch campus is adding a bit of pizazz to the interior of the building and is seeking help from businesses, students and the community. The college is soliciting photos to create a large collage that will be featured on one wall in the campus' student area. The campaign, entitled 'Show Us Your Spring Branch,' will allow those with a connection to the community to submit photos of their own Spring Branch experience using traditional and social media.

The campaign started in May and had an original deadline in September. However, after receiving several photos and support from the community, the submission deadline has been extended to provide more people with the opportunity to show their pride for Spring Branch's community.

HCC has provided educational opportunities to Spring Branch residents since 1986. By 2000, the demand for the community college campus had grown by so much that HCC purchased the building and property at I-10 and Beltway 8 West now known as the HCC Spring Branch campus. Close to 9,000 students attend this vibrant and diverse college.

The campus has been a staple in the Spring Branch community, offering various programs and services that have a deep impact on Houston's growing economy. In addition to the many academic and workforce offerings, the Spring Branch location is also home to the Center for Entrepreneurship that equips small businesses and startups with the tools needed to compete in the marketplace.

For high school students, HCC offers dual credit and early college programs that enable Spring Branch ISD students to earn college credit while still in high school at a discounted tuition rate.

The 'Show Us Your Spring Branch' campaign is designed to help beautify the campus, but also seeks to showcase and educate the public about HCC's longstanding commitment to the Spring Branch community.

"When the photo wall is complete, it will be a reflection of our continuing commitment and pride in being a part of the Spring Branch community.  Our faculty, staff and students have been and will continue to be "Spring Branch Proud," said Dr. Zachary Hodges, HCC Northwest President and Spring Branch resident.

The deadline to submit photos has been extended until February 1, 2014.  Selected photos will be digitized onto wallpaper-like material. Once the wall is complete, a celebration will be hosted in the spring at the Spring Branch campus.

Participants can show their Spring Branch pride by emailing show.springbranch@hccs.edu.
