Alumna Marissa Keith Owen ’08 graduated from Texas A&M nursing school and now has the special opportunity to work with her mom, Andrea Keith, former FBCA teacher.
The two are trauma nurses in the ER atMemorial Hermannmedical center which receives all the life flights. It is one of the busiest level-one trauma centers in the country.
“We have a lot of fun working together,” Andrea said.
Andrea taught anatomy and physiology at FBCA from 2007 to 2011. She also coached varsity tennis and JV volleyball. She attended UT Houston and earned a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) a year after Marissa. She was also recently accepted into nurse practitioner school.
Although they are both ER nurses, Marissa is sometimes the charge nurse which makes her the boss—her mom’s boss!
Marissa married Matt Owen, whom she met at A&M, on June 14, 2014. She has been working at Memorial Hermann for almost four years and truly enjoys her work there.
“There is something new every day,” she said. “You could not even begin to make up the stories that you hear. It's quite entertaining. You also get to love on people when they are hurt, scared or grieving. I could not ask for a better career.”
In her spare time, Marissa instructs Purre Barre classes and takes care of her dog Wrigley. Her husband works in commercial real estate as a senior financial analyst at CBRE as well as an MBA student at Rice University. They are actively involved in their church, Second Baptist.
