Beazer Homes earns award for its commitment and support of energy-efficient new construction

Houston, TX – Beazer Homes is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a 2015 ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes Market Leader. This award recognizes the important contribution Beazer Homes has made to energy-efficient construction and environmental protection by building more than 460 ENERGY STAR certified homes in 2014. Collectively, these homes will save homeowners approximately $144,440 on utility bills and reduce GHG emissions by 777 metric tons each year.

The environmental benefits of these ENERGY STAR certified homes are equivalent to the greenhouse gases:

  • Produced by 164 passenger vehicles annually;
  • Emitted from consuming 1,807 barrels of oil; and
  • Saved by planting and growing 19,780 coniferous trees, such as pine or spruce, for ten years.

Every ENERGY STAR certified home must meet rigorous requirements for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and undergo third-party testing and verification. As a result of an integrated approach to design, combined with tried-and-true best building practices, new homes that earn the ENERGY STAR label are up to 30% more efficient than typical new homes built today.

“We believe that energy efficiency should come standard on all homes,” said Bruce Craig, Division President of Beazer Homes. “Every home in Houston includes spray foam insulation, saving Beazer homeowners significant money in utility costs.”

Homes that have earned the ENERGY STAR label offer homebuyers a new home built with energy efficiency features and a combination of materials and equipment that deliver better performance. Standard features include proper sealing and insulation, high performance windows, tight construction and ducts, properly-sized and installed efficient heating and cooling equipment, and energy-efficient lighting and appliances. These value-adding features lead to a more comfortable, energy efficient, and durable home that will reduce utility and maintenance costs, while helping protect the environment.

“We’re proud to recognize our ENERGY STAR partners that provide new homes designed and built better from the ground up,” said Jonathan Passe, Director of EPA’s ENERGY STAR Residential Branch. “Third-party inspections and testing ensure homebuyers that their investment in an ENERGY STAR certified home will offer the peace of mind that their home will deliver superior energy efficiency, comfort, durability, and value for years to come.”

Together, families living in ENERGY STAR certified homes saved $619 million on their utility bills and avoided greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of more than 674,000 vehicles last year alone. Nearly 87,000 new homes were constructed to meet ENERGY STAR guidelines in 2014, and nearly 1.6 million ENERGY STAR homes have been built.
