More than 400 people eager to hear about Houston’s first crystal clear lagoon attended the recent grand opening of Balmoral, a master-planned community by Land Tejas.
In addition to presentations about the lagoon, which will anchor Balmoral’s 8-acre Amenity Village, the event included train rides, food, model home tours and a sand castle created by master sand sculptor Christy Atkinson of South Padre Island. In addition to creating the 8-foot sandcastle, Christy and her helpers provided tips to attendees on how they can create their own sand masterpiece.
“We’re already seeing robust home sales in Balmoral,” said Jennifer Keller, President and Chief Operating Officer for Land Tejas. “Excitement is building with the construction of Houston’s first crystal clear lagoon, which will open in summer 2018.”
The 2-acre lagoon, with depths up to 8 feet, will feature a Kid’s Cove and two sand beaches — a Family Beach with cabanas and lounge chairs, and a Serenity Beach. The lagoon will become a signature feature of the Amenity Village, which includes an infinity-edge pool overlooking the lagoon, a food truck courtyard, hammock park, sand volleyball court, playground and splash pad. A 12-foot wide GreenBoLT trail system will enable residents to walk, bike or take electric golf carts and Segways to Balmoral amenities and points of interest. The amenities are under construction now.
“Balmoral’s master plan is very high-concept. We’ve taken our amenity package to a new level, not just with the crystal clear lagoon, but by adding a new dimension in connected living with the GreenBoLT trail system,” Keller said.
Crystal Lagoons’ patented, environmentally friendly technology enables real estate developers to transform parcels of land into idyllic beach lifestyles anywhere in the world, at low construction and maintenance costs. The lagoons use 100 times fewer chemicals than traditional swimming pools and consume only 2 percent of the energy required by traditional pool filtration systems. The result — dramatic, clean, clear bodies of fresh water that offer tremendous recreational appeal for the whole family, particularly when compared to more traditional amenities such as golf courses, said Kevin Morgan, executive vice president with Crystal Lagoons.
The grand opening of the lagoon in 2018 will feature Crystal Lagoons’ newly signed spokesperson, Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, who will take a special swim in the lagoon at the event. While the lagoon is for Balmoral residents only, visitors to Balmoral’s information center can — for a limited time — register for a day pass to be used once the amenity village opens.
