Alvin Community College to Offer Classes This Fall at Shadow Creek High School, UHCL-Pearland in Pearland

Alvin Community College will offer courses starting this fall at two locations in Pearland. Classes will begin August 21 at Alvin ISD Shadow Creek High School on Broadway west of Texas 288, and the University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland campus on Pearland Parkway. Registration for the fall semester is now open.

“We are very excited to be able to offer classes convenient to Pearland residents,” President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht said. “Both locations will bring higher education closer to those in our taxing district and service area. The partnerships with Alvin Independent School District and University of Houston Clear Lake are very rewarding and offer win-win educational opportunities for our communities.”

Alvin Community College will offer select courses at both locations and build in more variety in the years to follow. The classes are part of the Core Curriculum and are transferrable to other public colleges and universities in Texas. ACC will offer several evening classes at Shadow Creek High.

The courses available at Shadow Creek are: Art Appreciation, Anatomy and Physioloy, Composition I and II, Public Speaking, Sociology and U.S. History I.

The courses at the Pearland campus offered in the day and evenings include: College Algebra, Composition I and II, Federal Government, Principles of Macroeconomic, General Psychology and United States History I and II.

Alvin ISD Superintendent Dr. Buck Gilcrease said the partnership with the college will help students on the west portion of its district.

"Alvin ISD is appreciative of our partnership with Alvin Community College,” he said. “As we look toward the future, our growing partnership will provide expanded opportunities that will benefit our students and community."

UH-Clear Lake President Dr. William A. Staples said partnering with ACC benefits students who are pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree.

"We are excited about partnering with Alvin Community College as they offer classes at UHCL Pearland Campus this fall,” Staples said. “We have a long-standing relationship with ACC who has partnered with UHCL since we opened our doors in 1974, and we look forward to enhancing our partnership even further to expand student access to higher education.”
