THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Wednesday, May 02, 2012) – The Millennium Waterway Avenue Apartments, located in The Woodlands Town Center, garnered the 2012 Houston Business Journal's Landmark Award in the multifamily category and was a finalist in the green category, stated Alex Sutton, president of The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC).  The awards were presented on Thursday, April 19 at a special dinner held at the Houstonian Hotel Club & Spa in Houston.

According to the Houston Business Journal, the Landmark Awards recognize real estate projects that make significant impressions on the Houston landscape.  "The Millennium Waterway Avenue is Houston's first LEED Certified Silver multifamily property and one of the first in the country," Sutton said. "We are honored by the recognition that the Houston area has shown for this monumental project.  We would like to give a very special thanks to the Houston Business Journal and the panel of judges that selected The Millennium Waterway Avenue as an exemplary development project."

To become LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, stringent development and design guidelines must be followed, set by the U.S. Green Building Council.Many green features and amenities have been incorporated into the design at the Millennium such as an on-site renewable energy source through solar panels on the roof; preferred parking for low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles; 15% of the covered area dedicated to bicycle storage; water use reduction; optimized energy performance; reduced light pollution; and improved indoor air quality.
