Post Hurricane Ike
Tuesday, 16 September 2008 09:53
Houston is well on the road to recovery after the Category 2 Hurricane Ike stormed across the Gulf Coast region.  While the aftermath of the storm will not soon be forgotten, the valiant efforts to restore Houston will always be a shining example of things that make Houston a great city.

It’s strong, proud, hard-working citizens and business leaders have created a diverse economy (oil and gas companies, medical facilities and hospitals, aerospace, international trade, petrochemicals and more), and laid the ground work for Houston’s rapid bounce back from Hurricane Ike. Companies are still hiring and may exceed the 17% new job creation rate reached 2007.

Houstonians are famous for their willingness to help their neighbors.  Clean-up began immediately on neighborhood streets to clear debris, restore power and water, distribute supplies, and re-open businesses.  Houston is a city rich with resources for people to draw from that will make for a swift recovery.  The city’s goals for a brighter, more vibrant future are well within reach.

Houston is a “can-do” city. There are literally hundreds of thousands of people that thought they would only be in Houston "for a couple of years" who have stayed and contributed to it’s reputation as a world-class city.  Fortune 500 companies have been built along with schools and neighborhoods that offer a sense of community. Fine art and fabulous entertainment, major league sports, international shopping and gourmet dining are all in Houston.

Katy Area
We are thankful there was very little damage in the Katy area. Only a few fallen signs broken limbs and some roof damage.

Slept through the hurricane. Woke up and had cable and electricity by 8 am. It was like nothing happened for us near mason rd. and 10.

Office Destroyed
I watched the hurricane all night long and was amazed by the power of mother nature. The next morning I escaped with just a broken fence and some missing shingles. When I went to work the following Monday we found out that our office was completely trashed. Next time a hurricane comes through, I think I will evacuate and take my computer home the day it is forecasted.

helping others
Our family and next-door neighbors lost a fence and lost power for over a day. Not too much that we can complain about. While we were not hit that hard in Katy, there are others in Houston that still have no power and will be out without food or water for the next couple of days even and even weeks. Lucky there are people who are willing to help and give their time in this crisis. There are local churches and other faculties that are giving back to the community.
