Almost one year after Americans across the country "rocked their parks" with celebratory flashmobs, Pearland Parks and Recreation Department and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) wants everyone to show how wild they are about parks and recreation this July.

     The 2012 "Get Wild" theme encourages individuals, families, friends, and park-lovers everywhere to venture to area parks and recreation areas to experience the many benefits they offer, such as programs to inspire healthy, active lifestyles and activities to appreciate nature and the environment.

     "I can't think of a better reason for residents to get out and experience for themselves the positive health effects, social interaction and connection to nature and open space that comes with vibrant and supported parks and recreation," said Michelle Smith, Pearland Parks and Recreation Directors.

     Pearland Parks and Recreation is offering residents three ways to get involved:

Corks & Canvas Art Show

The art show will open on Saturday, July 7, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Recreation Center and Natatorium. The show will feature photographs of City of Pearland Parks.

Citywide Parks and Recreation Bingo

The citywide bingo game will start July 1 and end July 31. Official bingo cards can be picked up at the Recreation Center & Natatorium or downloaded online. Participate in various parks and recreation events/activities listed on the bingo card and take a photo doing the activity in an attempt to get a BINGO. Once a bingo is achieved, participants should return the completed card with pictures to the Recreation Center & Natatorium by July 31 to win a prize! Winners will be announced in August.

Facebook Challenge

Take a photo along with an official Park and Recreation poster and post the photo to your Facebook page and tag "Pearland Parks and Recreation" in your post to participate.
