| Houston Ranked Number One for Adding New Jobs in 2008 |

Even when the U.S. economy is suffering from a decrease in jobs, Houston has stepped out of the shadow in the past two years by taking the number one spot for adding jobs to our economy. Following behind Houston was the Texas capital, Austin, and the number three spot was grabbed by the Dallas-Fort Worth area. At the same time that the national unemployment rate rose to 5.7 across the U.S., Texas managed to keep its unemployment rate below 5 percent.
