Green Building Advocate of the Year and Green Building Project of the Year are the two categories in which Wilshire Homes is a finalist. This year marks the first time the Texas Association of Builders introduced four new Green Building Awards to their already popular Star Awards line up. The Star Awards is the Southwest's premier building industry awards program. The Star Awards showcase the outstanding work of builders, remodelers, architects, designers, sales professionals, marketing professionals, construction professionals and industry leaders in Texas and the Southwest (Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arkansas). This recognition is sure to be the result of Wilshire Homes’ continued efforts to “raise the bar” on energy-efficient home building in the Greater Houston Area, in fact, a Wilshire Home is 35-40% more energy efficient than an ENERGY STAR Home. A standard Wilshire Home offers energy-efficient features such as radiant barrier roof decking, Low E3 double pane vinyl windows, tankless water heaters, whole-house HEPA filtration, 14-SEER factory matched Amana air-conditioning system just to name a few. Wilshire Homes refuses to stop there. Just this year, Wilshire Homes unveiled their new solar powered model home with great success. Wilshire is the first production builder to offer a solar energy system as a standard option in the Houston market. The new model at 7 N. Arrow Canyon Circle, in The Woodland’s community of Creekside Park, features a state-of-the-art 3.5 kW solar photovoltaic energy system. Solar panels, mounted discreetly on the home’s roof, convert sunlight into electricity, providing a clean alternative to fossil fuel-generated electricity. The addition of the solar energy system can reduce the homeowner’s annual electric bills by up to 40 percent, and requires virtually no maintenance. Plus, homeowners are also eligible for tax credits of up to $2,000 for installing a solar energy system. Wilshire has demonstrated a laudable commitment to building energy-efficient homes, making it the most energy-efficient production builder in Houston. Wilshire Homes was also recently awarded by the National Association of Home Builders and the United States Department of Energy with the Gold 2008 Energy Value Housing Award (EVHA) for their leadership in energy-efficient construction. Winning these prestigious Star Awards would be a wonderful addition to their growing list of accolades. “More than a marketing strategy, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly home building has been a continued commitment for Wilshire Homes,” says Craig Dudley, Division President, Wilshire Homes Houston. “It’s always encouraging to know that our hard work and determination is appreciated and acknowledged by industry peers.” The Texas Association of Builders will honor “the best in the building industry” during the Star Awards Gala on Friday, November 7, 2008 in conjunction with the Sunbelt Builders Show at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas. Wilshire Homes builds in 14 premier locations throughout Houston, including The Woodlands with homes priced from the $150s to the $500s.
