The Westchase District has installed new, improved lighting at the Briar Forest/Sam Houston Tollway underpass. This $90,000 project greatly improves both daytime and nighttime lighting at this underpass, where more than 100,000 cars pass daily.
“This project is identical to the lighting improvements that we installed at Richmond and Sam Houston Tollway in 2007,” said Irma Sanchez, Vice President of Projects for Westchase District. “We’ve installed decorative sconces that enhance the overnight lighting, plus enhanced 24-hour lighting that really brighten that underpass during the day.”
This is the second phase of underpass improvements at Briar Forest. The Westchase District painted the concrete, installed pigeon deterrents and large planters with seasonal flowers in 2007. “This intersection is adjacent to two schools and an upscale retail center, as well as the Beltway Townhomes and the Briargrove Park and Walnut Bend neighborhoods,” added Sanchez. “They will all benefit from the more attractive lighting and landscaping that has been installed here.”
“As a resident of the Walnut Bend community, I’m very appreciative of the efforts of the Westchase District to beautify the Briar Forest underpass,” said Dede Henning, president of Walnut Bend Home Owners Association. “The lights add a degree of security and, coupled with the landscaping, they provide a beautiful gateway to the Walnut Bend community.”
“Revere Middle School is always delighted when our community is made safer for our children as well as our faculty,” added Anastasia Anderson, Principal of Revere Middle School. “We’re so pleased to have completed these improvements at two of Westchase District’s most prominent and busy intersections,” said Westchase District General Manager Jim Murphy. “It makes the area more attractive and helps us to reclaim our area at night.”
