Johnson Development Corp. has taken over redevelopment of the former Imperial Sugar Co. site at the intersection of SH 90 and Main St. Houston-based Johnson took over the role of project manager from Southern Land Co. of Nashville.

Johnson affiliate Cherokee Investment Partners LLC plans for the 650-acre site to include hundreds of homes along with a commercial district. Demolition of existing Imperial Sugar buildings could begin soon, and land development could follow as soon as 2010.
