The Houston area experienced a 2.3 percent population increase between 2007 and 2008, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area’s growth rate put it No. 31 on the list of metro areas. The area added 130,000 people between July 2007 and July 2008 to reach a total of 5.7 million people.

The fastest population growth was seen in Raleigh-Cary, N.C., which experienced a 4.3 percent population uptick during the 12-month period.
