Since its establishment in 1897, Angleton Independent School District has taken pride in providing the best possible education to every student who passes through its classrooms. In fact, the school district's motto is "a tradition of excellence". AISD is recognized as one of the best public school systems in Texas, and its students continue to excel in several academic and elective venues and competitions throughout the state.

Angleton ISD serves approximately 6,300 students in a 396-square mile district that stretches from the Brazoria-Fort Bend county lines in the north to the Brazoria-Galveston county lines in the south.

In 2011 for the second year in a row, AISD was recognized for achieving academic success through cost-effective operations thus receiving the Texas Comptroller's 2011 Texas Honors Circle Award, and Angleton students attend elementary, junior high and high school at campuses that have been highly rated by TEA.

Because the district recognizes the value of producing highly skilled graduates, AISD has also designed multiple pathways for college and career readiness starting at the elementary level. The district's mission is to prepare each student academically and socially to become a responsible and productive citizen. AISD started its third year of the Dual Language Program (DLP), an educational model in which native English speakers and native speakers of another language receive instruction together in both languages to promote second language acquisition, high academic achievement and cross-cultural understanding for all students.

Students finish their public school education at Angleton High School where they are offered several career and technology programs, such as welding, criminal justice and culinary arts. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in award-winning fine arts programs and championship athletic programs and can choose from a wide array of academic courses including numerous Advanced Placement and Dual/Concurrent College classes.

Finally, AISD is proud of its Character Counts! schools. Realizing that "to educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society" (President Theodore Roosevelt), each AISD campus stresses the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, citizenship, caring, responsibility and fairness. Combined with a strong PALS program in grades 1 through 12, students are taught skills of peer mediation and mentoring.
