Chartered in 1935 as Hughes Tool Company Employees Federal Credit Union, First Service Credit Union began serving Hughes Tool Company employees in Houston, Texas.
In May 2001, First Service (then Houston Energy Credit Union) merged with First Energy Credit Union, another highly respected, energy-related credit union in Houston. First Energy's roots were in Shreveport, Louisiana, beginning in 1939 as United Gas Pipeline Federal Credit Union. Both credit unions entered the merger as strong, equal partners. Today, First Service serves over fifty (50) companies in a wide variety of industries.
In September 2003, First Service received the largest field of membership expansion granted in the Houston-area at the time, to include all of Harris County. This expansion allows anyone who lives, works, or attends school within any part of Harris County to join and open an account with First Service.
In May 2004, First Service took on its new name. The name was chosen as a symbol of the Board's, the Management Team's, and each individual employee's commitment to provide the best service that can be found.
The credit union is a strong financial institution, with over 35,000 member and more than $205 million in assets. Considered one of the largest credit unions in Houston, the credit union is poised to improve its branch network, increase its product offering, and more.
