New Division Heads are Appointed at St. Francis

St. Francis Episcopal Day School is pleased to announce the appointment of two new division heads. Mrs. Michelle Symonds will join the staff as Head of Primary School, and Colleen Curran begins as Head of Middle School beginning with the 2008-2009 school year.

Mrs. Symonds has been the director of the early childhood program at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Houston since 2004. She holds an M.Ed. degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Houston and has taken additional graduate coursework in Educational Leadership and Supervision. She has a B.S. degree in Child Development from the University of Texas at Austin. She has three years of classroom experience and 10 years as an administrator. Prior to joining the team at St. Andrew’s, Mrs. Symonds worked at Presbyterian School as a first-grade teacher before moving into administration to manage Presbyterian’s school-wide technology program. This is where she began to get a feel for administrative work, which grew into a true passion for directing programs that benefit young children. She feels a strong calling to this career and knows that her dedication makes a difference in the lives of families and their children.

Ms. Colleen Curran presently holds the position of Director of Summer and After School Programs at St. Francis Episcopal Day School. Her efforts with that program have been exemplary as she organized and motivated the staff, improved communication, upgraded facilities and procedures, increased enrollment, and created a model that turned the programs into revenue positive areas for the school—all in just under one year. She will join the middle school team as Head of Middle School beginning with the 2008-2009 school year. Ms. Curran holds an M.Ed. degree in educational leadership and a B.A. degree in history with a minor in Spanish from the University of Houston. She has eight years of classroom experience, having taught elementary, high school, K-12 special education and gifted and talented students. Middle school children are a special motivation for Ms. Curran. “They keep me hopeful,” she says. “They have so much good energy. Seeing how children grow and change in middle school, and being a part of their lives at this juncture, is really worthwhile. You can watch them come to a sense of their own opinions and identity.”
