Katy is known for its family-friendly quality of life, which includes the much-touted Katy Independent School District. Comprised of 47 campuses, including 29 elementary schools, 10 junior highs, 6 high schools, a career-technology center and an alternative center, Katy ISD encompasses 181-square miles,   reaching into Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties.

With more than 53,000 students in an expanding region that exemplifies progress, Katy ISD is one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas with an annual growth rate of about 5 to 6 percent projected through 2016. Due to this tremendous growth, voters approved a $269 million bond election during the 2006-07 school year to provide funds for new schools, additions and improvements at existing campuses, technology, land, buses and portable buildings.

Instructional quality is guided by a comprehensive district-wide curriculum management plan, which coordinates development, delivery, and assessment of teaching throughout the district. Student achievement on statewide tests consistently surpasses statewide achievement levels at every grade level in every area tested. Katy students consistently win individual and team championships (state, national and international) in athletics, academics and fine arts. For the 16th consecutive year, Katy ISD was named one of the nation’s most sought-after school districts by School Match, a nationwide school information service.

Attesting to the solid relationship between the district and the community, Katy ISD offers an award-winning Partners in Education program, providing volunteers for  children in the district. More than 12,000 volunteers donated more than a half-million hours in 2006-07. In addition, Katy ISD is the first school district in the world to adopt a Junior Achievement “whole district” approach, providing JA curriculum at each grade level and every campus.

Katy ISD is committed to ensuring each child meets with success, and comprises a staff of dedicated, aspiring professionals with a common goal – to do “whatever it takes” for students. The emphasis is on meeting the needs of students through engaging instruction, a supportive classroom environment, and a wide variety of extracurricular activities.
