Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is a 2009 "Recognized" school district located approximately 20 miles northwest of downtown Houston and encompasses 186 square miles.As one of the fastest-growing school districts in the nation, CFISD's student enrollment at the beginning of the 2009-10 school year exceeded 104,000, making it the second-largest school district in the Houston area and the third-largest in Texas.
Cy-Fair ISD opened one new elementary school and one new middle school in August 2009, giving the district a total of 80 schools. The district began the 2009-2010 school year with 50 elementary schools, 16 middle schools, 10 high schools and five special program facilities. The 2008 National Merit honorees featured 26 National Merit Semifinalists, 88 Commended students, 6 National Achievement Scholars and 35 National Hispanic Scholars.
