Intown Houston is defined by a network of historic neighborhoods and major economic centers nestled just minutes from Downtown Houston and the Texas Medical Center. Intown Houston encompasses River Oaks, Afton Oaks, Greenway Plaza, Upper Kirby, West University Place, Midtown, Montrose/Neartown and the Museum District, all areas of Houston with unique character and identities united by geography to form the very heart of Houston. The added benefit of two Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones (TIRZ) and two Management Districts (Upper Kirby and Midtown) in the Intown area, and the high density residential and retail developments are able to merge infrastructure, landscaping improvements, and maintenance to create a blueprint capable of accommodating the city’s growing population without sacrificing its natural beauty and character. As Houston continues to expand rapidly, smart-growth is a necessity and Intown Houston’s leadership is evident in the development of the area.

The demand for inner-city residences and shorter commute times are at an all time high.  Mixed-use and multifamily developments coinciding with the renovation and preservation of existing green spaces is an integral part of Intown’s  smart-growth concept: building up rather than out. The Upper Kirby TIRZ park renovations include Levy Park, an Urban Nature Center and community garden, the addition of a jogging trail, playground equipment, picnic facilities, a dog park, and substantial new tree plantings, and landscape improvements.

Intown Houston continues to thrive with shopping that offers consumers excellent retail and restaurant experiences. Catering to one of the highest income demographics in the city, large retail centers such as Rice Village, Highland Village and the River Oaks Shopping Center, are the most recognizable names in retail as well as unique,  boutiques and eateries.
