Since its establishment in 1897, Angleton Independent School District has taken pride in providing the best possible education to every student who passes through its classrooms. In fact the school district’s motto is “a tradition of excellence”.

That is why AISD is recognized as one of the best public school systems in Texas, and its attributes have not gone unnoticed. House Education Committee Chairman Rob Eissler commissioned a study on the overall performance and operating efficiencies of the 200 largest public school districts in Texas, and Angleton ISD ranked #1.

In addition, the performance of AISD students on the 2006 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) in grades 3 through 6 was ranked number one in the Houston area and number seven in the state of Texas.

Angleton ISD serves approximately 6,500 students in a 396-square mile district that stretches from the Brazoria-Fort Bend county lines in the north to the Brazoria-Galveston county lines in the south. Students attend elementary schools and middle/intermediate schools that have been rated either exemplary or recognized by the Texas Education Agency.

Students finish their public school education at Angleton High School where they have the opportunity to participate in award-winning fine arts programs, championship athletic programs and premier career and technology programs. Students at AHS also have a wide array of academic courses from which to choose. They can select from 13 different Advanced Placement (AP) courses and test at the end of the course to earn college credit. AHS has agreements with both Brazosport College and Alvin Community College providing students the opportunity to earn dual credit for high school and college. Professors from Brazosport College travel to AHS to teach several courses each semester.

To provide a foundation for students interested in employment in the chemical industry field, AISD joined forces several years ago with its chemical industry partners to create a process technology program, and in recent years career and technology programs, such as criminal justice and culinary arts, have been implemented.

The pursuit of excellence at AISD continues with the creation and success of AHS’s comprehensive after-school program Angleton University, which was recently recognized at the state level for bettering the lives of the students, school and community.

Finally, the students and staff of AISD are proud to be Character Counts! schools. Realizing that “to educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society” (President Theodore Roosevelt), each AISD campus stresses the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, citizenship, caring, responsibility and fairness. Combined with a strong PALS program in grades 1 through 12, students are taught skills of peer mediation and mentoring.
