Alvin ISD serves students in the Alvin-Manvel area and students whose families live west of the Texas 288 corridor. Alvin ISD is growing by about 1,000 students per year, with a total of almost 15,400 students at the end of 2007.
The Alvin ISD Board of Trustees continues the
commitment to academic excellence that placed them as one of the top
school boards in Texas in 2005. By providing one of the highest starting
salaries in the area, Alvin ISD is able to hire and retain the best and
brightest teachers.
Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary which
opened in 2007 and Nolan Ryan Junior High, which will open in 2008, join
Mary Burks Marek Elementary in Shadow Creek Ranch, one of the fastest
growing developments in the area. Manvel High School, located on Texas 6
serves ninth, tenth and eleventh graders (twelfth grade in 2008-2009)
and offers a wide range of academic, athletic and extracurricular
programs.
Alvin ISD recognizes the importance of cost effective
management and has been awarded a Superior rating for financial
accountability in the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST)
program for five consecutive years.
Students excel in a wide
range of academic and athletic opportunities. A unique partnership with
Alvin Community College enables students to earn college credit while
still in high school, or they can earn an associates degree and high
school diploma simultaneously. The needs of every child are served
through advanced placement courses, gifted/talented education,
career/technology education and special education programs.
