Friendswood was named one of the country's "Best Places to Live" by Money magazine in 2007. Ranked No. 51 out of 100 cities across the United States, Friendswood was the only community in the Greater Houston area to make the list. The "Best Places" list focuses on smaller towns that offer the best combination of economic opportunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do and a real sense of community.
Friendswood offers residents quick access to the Johnson Space Center (NASA) just 10 miles away, downtown Houston, Hobby Airport, petrochemical complexes, Port of Houston, and Clear Lake.
Friendswood attracts its share of retail, residential and commercial development. The city has approved a pedestrian-friendly downtown revitalization plan based on vertical integration of offices, stores and restaurants.
West Ranch, a 766-acre master plan by Friendswood Development Company, will feature 1,500 homes, parks, and a 600-square-foot village center when built out. A new junior high adjacent to West Ranch will open in 2010. The Texas Education Agency rated all Friendswood schools Exemplary, the highest possible ranking, and the district earned a Recognized ranking.
