Lone Star College-Tomball Future Teacher Club Wins Top Award!
The Lone Star College-Tomball chapter of the Association of Texas Professional Educators-ATPE which is part of the Future Teacher Club has been selected as “Local Unit of the Year” at the Leadership U Conference held recently in Austin. The selection was based on various accomplishments during the 2007-08 academic year including local unit management, membership growth, member services, services to the school and community, and political involvement. The LSC-Tomball club doubled its membership from the prior year and also brought the largest college group (25 members) in more than 30 years to the annual conference in March 2008.

Football Picks
Are you ready for some football? The Potpourri will have a section each week for ten weeks that will feature Magnolia and Tomball area citizens making football picks from Sports Editor Dustin Bass. Keep your eyes out for that feature as we look forward to high school football from the three area high schools.

LMC Board Addition
RoseMary Mooney, Lone Star College-Tomball, has been selected to serve on the Leadership Montgomery County Board of Directors. Though your Chamber’s president has held a position on the board for some time due to her position with the Chamber, this is the first time a Chamber member that is not a staff member has held a position on the LMC Board. RoseMary, a 2004 grad, has remained active in the alumni association and served twice as a session director for the education portion of the curriculum.

Lone Star College-Tomball’s annual learning fair, Under the Big Top: Is Your Life a 3-Ring Circus?, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Tomball and Thursday, Sept. 11 at LSC-Willow Chase Center , from 9:30am – 1pm. Students can visit with teachers and staff at information tables, participate in drawings at each table, and register for a grand prize drawing to be announced at the end of the event. In addition to information about resources to help students successfully complete their academic goals, they can participate in the following interactive activities: Pump it UP! with brain teasers , Amazing Race scavenger hunt, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, Jeopardy, and a live chess match.
