Spring Independent School District

The Spring Independent School District serves over 32,000 pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade students in a diverse and growing district located 20 miles north of downtown Houston in an urban area of Harris County that spans 57 square miles.  The District's ethnic breakdown is 38.5 percent African American, 35.9 percent Hispanic, 20.6 percent white, 4.8 percent Asian and Pacific Islander and 0.2 percent Native American.

The District opened a new high in August 2007, bringing the total number of campuses to 31, which includes three comprehensive high schools classified as 5A, a high-school career academy, a ninth-grade center, six sixth- through eighth-grade middle schools, one pre-kindergarten through second-grade primary school, one third-through fifth-grade intermediate school, and 18 pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade elementary schools. Two new elementary schools and a seventh

middle school are scheduled to open in August 2008.

Spring ISD's student-to-teacher ratio is 22 to 1 for pre-kindergarten through fourth grade and 25 to 1 for fifth- through twelfth-grades.  The District offers half-day pre-kindergarten classes for qualified

four-year olds, full-day kindergarten, bilingual and English as a Second Language programs, gifted, talented and honors programs, and Advanced Placement classes.

Spring ISD is working toward being recognized nationally as a leader among learning organizations and known for exemplary student achievement by the year 2015.

“We are raising the bar for all students in Spring schools,” said Dr. Ralph H. Draper, Spring ISD superintendent. “Spring is a community that values its children, and we are engaging the community in providing the education our students need to ensure that they have a bright and

productive future.”

The District focuses on being fiscally responsible in all areas.  For the fifth consecutive year, Spring ISD has earned a rating of superior achievement in the state's financial accountability rating system.  The rating is based on the district's receiving a perfect score on 21

financial indicators.
